okay so they've got this new(ish) monthly event at
the barbary called "fight club", and i want to tell you why its amazing.

no pretentiousness. no cover.while these things are definitely true, fight club is so much more than just that. here's what goes down. lots of DJ's show up and their names are put into a hat. every twenty minutes a new name gets picked from the hat. if you are picked, you must funnel a beer, and take a shot of whiskey. (in the words of emcee/bartender gravy, "the first rule of fight club is you gotta do a beer bong".) now i know this is starting to sound a little frat-bro perhaps, but i assure you, its nothing like that. most of these DJ's have never funneled a beer before (i certainly haven't) so its kinda hilarious. SO THEN.. once you've downed a bunch of alcohol very quickly, you then must DJ for twenty minutes! i really love music games so i am all about this, but the formula also makes for a really good party, even if you're not going to spin. since everyone only goes for 20 minutes, many DJ's playing many styles of music go throughout the night. and if you don't like what the current DJ is spinning, you need only wait 20 minutes for something new to come on! genius. oh and don't forget the "no pretentiousness" part.. anyone can sign up! this isn't like the gong show or showtime at the apollo, no clown is gonna come hook you out of the booth, and its not a contest! no winner means everyone wins! fight club is tonite and every second tuesday at the barbary.
